A selection of projects to come out of The Works
Full Digital Workflow Conversion for Analog Lab
Completed consultation for a conversion to an end-to-end digital workflow with a formerly completely analog dental lab in operation for over 20 years.
Spicer Labworks provided the professional experience needed to smoothly transition to the digital age with the lowest costs possible, guiding the firm through 3D scanner selection, printer options, and CNC milling options.
It took only two hours for setup and for personnel to be trained to print removable partial denture models. This immediately got the facility straight to making dental prosthesis and their $30,000 investment to work.
Purestar Prism
Developed inhouse using Autodesk CAD suites and rapidly prototyped through five iterations in two weeks for in-hand feel and fitment testing using high resolution stereolithography 3D-printing before committing to a final design for mass manufactures overseas, cutting development costs and cycle times drastically.
Completion of this design required an intimate knowledge of every level of the process and end-use from years of industry experience
DunECU Tuning Tool by Dunehoon
Spicer Labworks consulted with Dunehoon R&D and guided the project from conceptual prototype to working end-user product through professional experience and advanced 3D printing technology to overcome machining limitations involved with the keyways

Turnaround was 48 hours from concept to finished product.

D300VS+ Retail Kit Multi Modal Debugging
Spicer Labworks reverse-engineered several components and created a testing framework for determining if the prints being created were true and correct. The framework helped diagnose many mysterious errors in the assembled kits. Correcting those errors required assessing both the physical machines as well as the GCODE machine programming directives that direct printer head movements and toolhead actuation.
Consultation alleviated potential critical errors through remote methods and lead to a successful product release that outsold the original unit ten to one.

Production Fixture Plate for Popular Open Source CNC Router
Precision tooling is the difference between LEGO and “just bricks.” For ODP, Spicer Labworks assessed a market need for precision work holdings on a widely available open-source CNC platform. Then, we provided the ability to manufacture the part using their milling center directives through precision metrology and CAD, and remotely guided the team through manufacturing and verification to confirm the end products would be within tolerances. This highly technical project was conducted via email, from requirements analysis through conclusion.

D300VS+ Prototype Run
Due to the initial investment costs of comitting to a run in either SLS or injection molding, Ultibots commissioned Spicer Labworks to produce the first run of parts to send to testers. Rapidly prototyping and iterating designs allowed the company to engineer in a more natural progression and rates far faster than print bureaus. Turnaround was 2 days.
SLA Computer Vision Aperture
3D printed camera enclosure meant to simulate injection plastic. The camera itself is paired with several others on an RTOS for computer vision computations.
Destiny 2 Cosplay Prop
Client commissioned cosplay prop commissioned for a 3D printed model of ‘Last Word’ from Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 and Last Word are the intellectual property of Activision Blizzard
Constructed out of Carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate and Formlabs ‘grey pro’ SLA photoresin.
Predator Bust
SLA grey resin bust of the Predator
Predator® is the intellectual property of 20th Century Fox
Closeup of PLA curves
Most printers actually segment curves into many sided polygons, the controller used in the D300VS can generate true arc (G2) movements in addition to true point to point real time calculations. leading to far smoother curves.
